Athens (Greece) – Brazilian judoka Flávio Canto (-81kg) won the second Brazilian Olympic medal today at the Athens Olympic Games, at the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall. The medal, the second bronze, was also the twelfth of Brazilian judo in the history of the games. The sport has now equalled athletics and sailing as the largest Brazilian medal winners.
Flávio defeated polish judoka Robert Krawczyk in the dispute for Bronze with a waza-ari, after being behind by a yuko. The Brazilian competed six times until he won the medal, having lost only to Russian Dmitri Nossov, who won the other bronze medal in the category. "I spent the night awake, I could not sleep due to the anxiety. I thought that I was not well, but I started feeling better on competing, and I had a good day."
