São Paulo –Kepler Weber, from Rio Grande do Sul, announced this month the delivery of the main grain storage project in the private sector in Syria. The work, delivered in November 2009, has a capacity for storage of 40,000 tonnes of maize and replenishment capacity of 300 tonnes/hour.
The project was ordered by T. Akhras Group and took eight months to be executed at the cost of US$ 2.07 million, being part of a system for extraction of glucose and maize starch in the city of Homs.
This is the second site developed by the Brazilian company for the Syrian group. The first was for storage of 40,000 tonnes of vegetable oil.
In the Middle East and Africa, the company has already developed a project in Turkey, eight in Iran and one in Egypt, where the second site should be delivered in April, with the construction of metal silos and grain transporters for the Egyptian International Company, a company that stores wheat for production of flour.
Kepler Weber has 30% of its production turned to the foreign market, 8% to the Arab countries. The company, which has been exporting to the Middle East since 2003, is currently seeking new clients among the Arab nations.
“Apart from Syria, where we already have a structure, we are focussing on Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where we have been seeking new projects,” said Denis Catelan, trader for the Middle East.
He explained that Kepler Weber should participate in a trade delegation to the Middle East, organized by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, with the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, to take place in April, as it finds the region strategic to its business.
“It is a strategic mission and being a Brazilian company helps. The objective is to grow in North Africa and the Middle East,” he finished off.
