São Paulo – The government of Kuwait announced this Monday (25) that the curfew currently in place will only last until May 30, countering expectations of an extension. The state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that deputy prime minister Anas Al-Saleh chose to reopen the economy instead.

Al Saleh is also Kuwait’s minister of State for Cabinet Affairs. Speaking during an online press conference, he said he will provide further detail as of next Thursday (28) on what he termed a return to normalcy. He also said the minister of Health believes that the comprehensive curfew has been helpful in managing the pandemic.
The administration reported 21,967 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 165 deaths. Kuwait will be the third country in the region to loosen Covid-19 restrictions, after the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Other Arab countries have announced a loosening of restrictions, including Egypt, on its way to reopen for tourism, and Algeria, which resumed importing new automobiles.
