São Paulo – Jaguar Land Rover opened a manufacturing plant this Tuesday (14) in the city of Itatiaia, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The carmaker invested BRL 750 million (roughly USD 218 million) in the facility, where the Evoque and Discovery Sport will be made. Annual output will be 24,000 units, and 400 jobs will be created.
The plant is located near Resende, an auto industry hub, Brazil’s Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services reported. The project is part of the federal government’s Inovar-Auto program, which awards tax breaks to companies that invest in Brazil, in a bid to increase competitiveness, technology and safety for cars made in the country.
