São Paulo – Revenues from Brazilian leather exports totalled US$ 552 million in the first four months of the year, representing growth of 79.8% over the same period of last year. The information was disclosed today (5th) by the Confederation of Brazilian Hides and Skins Industries (CICB).
The chairman of the organization, Wolfgang Goerlich, stated in a press release that the Brazilian leather industry is going through a very good phase, contrary to what happened last year.
In April, sales totalled US$ 159 million, representing growth of 98.75% over the same month of 2009. Considering the export figures up until the last month, Goerlich believes that exports by the industry should end the year at between US$ 1.7 billion and US$ 1.8 billion. Italy, China and Hong Kong were the main destinations of Brazilian leather exports.
