São Paulo – A collaboration between a Lebanese musician and a Syrian singer has given rise to the band Bedouin Burger. The duo blends classical Arabic poetry, experimental music and a pop style, and it started during the pandemic. The formation consists of Zeid Hamdan, a pioneer of Lebanon’s underground music scene, and Syrian singer Lynn Adib.
Hamdan is a multi-instrumentalist, while Adib studied flute at the National Conservatory of Damascus. Now the singer divides her time between Paris, France, and Lebanon. She studied at the American School of Modern Music before pursuing studies in vocal jazz at the Conservatory Regional Influence De Paris.
Besides poetry and pop, the experimental indie duo blends acoustic recordings and old drum machines.
Arab News newspaper reported the project’s artwork, with its distinctive psychedelics and pop-culture imagery, is also the work of Adib.
Since its creation, the duo has performed in countries like Switzerland. Earlier this week, The National reported that the band would perform in the United Arab Emirates’ 2nd Sun, a two-day music event organized by Lebanese music collective Factory People. Held at Manarat Saadiyat, the free concert was part of Abu Dhabi Art.
