São Paulo – The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism released an estimate this Friday (9th) that tourism revenues will amount to BRL 2.7 billion (USD 698 million) over the weekend and the holiday on Monday (12th), the day of Brazil’s patron saint Our Lady of Aparecida.
The most popular destinations include Aparecida do Norte, in the state of São Paulo, home to the sanctuary and a pilgrimage site, and Belém, in Pará state, where the Círio de Nazaré procession in honor of Our Lady of Nazareth will take place on Sunday (11th). Moreover, Monday is Children’s Day, therefore retail sales are expected to increase.
According to the Ministry, revenues are poised to be the highest out of six long weekends in 2015. The calculation, however, does not include Carnival, the Holy Week, Christmas and the New Year.
