São Paulo – The former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will donate the US$ 100,000 prize he received in Poland this Thursday (29) to an African country. Lula was granted the Lech Walesa Award, created by the former Polish president to acknowledge prominent figures for their respect to freedom, democracy, and international cooperation.
The information was disclosed by Instituto Lula. The directors of Instituto Lula, alongside members of the Polish Lech Walesa Institute, are going to select the target country for the US$ 100,000.
According to a statement disclosed by the Lech Walesa Institute, Lula was awarded “out of recognition for his efforts toward peaceful cooperation and understanding among nations, especially to highlight the role of developing countries in the business world, and for his contribution to reducing social inequality.”
