São Paulo – Last Sunday (30th), the United Arab Emirates’ sustainable project company Masdar signed an agreement with the country’s Red Crescent Society – the Arab equivalent of the Red Cross – to provide basic services such as electricity and water in the locations where it is active. The information was issued by Masdar in a press release.
Masdar will develop, build and operate various solar power projects, such as solar home systems, solar water pumping systems, and solar desalination.
The Red Crescent will provide Masdar with a list of its projects for the company to spot potential users. Masdar, in turn, will develop and supply all of the renewable energy solutions to said projects.
According to the Red Crescent website, in addition to the Emirates, the group is active in countries such as Palestine, Yemen, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and the Maldives.
“Today, the rapid development of renewable energy technology is creating new opportunities for how wind and solar power can be applied. For underserved communities, and countries facing economic uncertainty, delivering access to sustainable energy can be an economic boost and create a trajectory for progress,” said Masdar CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber according to a press release.
“This cooperation underscores the growing role renewable energy can play in providing relief to underserved communities and establishing pathways for economic development,” said Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, the secretary general of the UAE Red Crescent Authority.
