São Paulo – Mauritania Airlines has received an Embraer-made ERJ-145 aircraft this week. According to Embraer, the unit is used and was purchased in the United States, according to information released by the Mauritanian Information Agency (AMI). The unit was received last Tuesday (22nd) by the Arab country’s president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, at the International Airport of Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital.
Approximately two years ago, Embraer sold brand new A-29 Super Tucano model units to the Mauritanian Air Force. The used unit sold is a 50-seater. The aircraft’s flight range is four hours and 3,000 kilometres. The model is no longer manufactured by Embraer.
The aircraft will fly from Mauritania to Dakar (Senegal), Banjul (Gambia) Casablanca (Morocco), Adidjan (Ivory Coast), Bamako (Mali), Conakri (Guinea Conakri), and Las Palmas (Canary Islands). According to information from AMI and the African news agency Panapress, the ERJ-145 is considered a modern aircraft with excellent technology.
In Q2 this year Embraer delivered 58 business and executive jets, up seven units from Q2 2013. The firm order backlog stood at US$ 18.1 billion as of June 30th, according to the company. The only Arab company in the backlog was Saudi Arabia’s NAS Air, with a firm order for seven Embraer 190 units.
However, many Arab countries are clients of the Brazilian company. EgyptAir has purchased 12 Embraer 170 units, Libya’s Petro Air purchased two units of the same model, Saudi Arabian Airlines purchased 15, Libya’s Sirte Oil purchased one unit, and Bahrain’s Gulf Air purchased two. Oman Air imported five Embraer 175 units and Royal Jordanian imported two. NAS Air bought three Embraer 190 units and Lebanon’s M1 Travel bought eight. Royal Jordanian purchased two Embraer 195 units. The combined total number of deliveries is 52.
