Brasília – The National Movement for Citizenship and Solidarity, the Secretariat General of the Presidency of the Republic, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have launched today (14) the 2007 Millennium Goals Prize – Brazil.
Programmes by municipal administrations, companies, and civil society organizations that contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals are eligible for the prize. The prize is coordinated by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) and by the National School of Public Administration (Enap).
The eight Millennium Goals were launched in the year 2000, during the UN Millennium Summit. On the occasion, 189 countries committed themselves to accomplishing the goals. One of them is to reduce by half the number of people living in extreme poverty in the world.
