São Paulo – The State Forestry Institute of Minas Gerais (IEF-MG) launched on Tuesday (18) the public note for concession of two state parks: Ibitipoca in Santa Rita do Ibitipoca and Lima Duarte, and Itacolomi in Ouro Preto and Mariana. It is scheduled for December 21 at B3 in São Paulo.
Hired by the IEF-MG, Brazilian development bank BNDES developed the concession project of the conservation units, and together with the consortium Modelagem Parques – Bloco 3, led by firm Houer Consultoria e Concessões, structured the process. “The job involved the commercial evaluation and study of demand, socio-environmental diagnosis, architectural and engineering studies, legal study and modeling, as well as economic and financial modeling,” BNDES reported.
The investment in the project is estimated at approximately BRL 15 million (USD 3 million) over the next six years. According to BNDES, the parks boast natural attractions such as waterfalls, lakes and mountains as well as museums and ruins that could attract a huge stream of visitors.
The bank stressed a very interesting aspect of the project is the allocation of part of the revenues from the concession to social and environmental benefits, including entrepreneurship promotion , research, environmental tracking, and integration of surrounding populations. Environmental conservation, improvement of the infrastructure of the parks, sustainable tourism promotion, and the socioeconomic development of the surrounding communities are the pillars of the concession modelling.
