São Paulo – The federal government has presented, this Tuesday (25), a revitalization program focusing on the Brazilian mining industry. Among the initiatives are the creation of the Mining National Agency, the modernization of the sector’s code and the improvement of the law governing the exploration of mineral resources. The measures were taken by provisional measure.
According to information made public by the government, the goal is to increase the industry’s share in Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Currently, the sector accounts for 4% of the Brazilian economy and is responsible for 200,000 direct jobs. The goal is to reach 6%. The government believes that it can shake up the sector and attract new investments with the new measures.
