Brasília – Minister Jaques Wagner, the government’s chief of staff, said this Thursday (22nd) that the public accounts will present a primary deficit of approximately BRL 50 billion (USD 12.78 billion), corresponding to 0.8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Up to now, the government was working with the forecast of a primary surplus of BRL 8.74 billion (USD 2.23 billion), which was already revised down in July.
“It stands around 50 billion, but we don’t know yet if it will come to be. We’re doing estimations. If something comes in [revenues], great. It will be smaller [the deficit]”, said the minister in an interview at Palácio do Planalto.
The new fiscal target is being discussed by the economic team and will be released this Friday (23rd), according to Nelson Barbosa, minister of Planning. The reviewing must be voted by Congress.
