São Paulo – The mission led by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil, Carlos Fávaro, to the United Arab Emirates this week brought the two countries closer together on the sustainability agenda. Both the minister’s schedule and the activities of the business delegation that accompanied him were centered on the subject, one of the major international topics today. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) supported the business schedule. After visiting South Korea, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, the group was in the UAE from Monday (31) to Thursday (3).
“It was excellent for Brazil’s image the delegation passed through here. We showed importers, distributors, and Arab companies Brazil is working to increase sustainability actions and seeking technology to be more efficient in production,” said the ABCC’s international office director in Dubai, Rafael Solimeo.
As in other countries, Fávaro presented the Brazilian sustainable food production program in the UAE, which aims to recover up to 40 million hectares of low-productivity land to increase agricultural output with carbon capture and maintain 66% of Brazil’s preserved territory.
Fávaro addressed the subject in his meetings and traveled with a focus on seeking investments for the program. In the UAE, he met with the Ministers of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy; International Trade; Talent Attraction and Retention; Economy, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi; and the undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Mohammed Al Nuaimi.
With the business delegation, the minister was received by the director general of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), Tarifa Alzaabi. The ICBA works with agricultural research and carries out innovative projects toward sustainable and technological agriculture. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Ministry of Agriculture, and ICBA will exchange information, technical knowledge, and transfer technologies.
The minister also met with representatives of investment funds and the Agthia group. The delegation also visited the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), where Brazilian company BRF has an industrial plant.
