São Paulo – Morocco was one of Brazil’s 20 largest international suppliers of footwear year to date through February. The Arab country exported 603 pairs of footwear to the Brazilian market, the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) reported.
The Moroccans exported to Brazil footwear worth USD 33.47 a pair, a value much higher than the average price of footwear imported by the Brazilian market year to date of USD 10.25 a pair. Pictured above, a shoe factory in Morocco.
Morocco was Brazil’s 20th largest footwear supplier and the sole Arab nation to figure in the list of top international suppliers. Sales, however, grossed only USD 20,000, as the shipped volume isn’t relevant in the overall amount of footwear that Brazil imports.
The country that exported the most footwear to Brazil year to date was Vietnam, at 1.1 million pairs for USD 22.5 million, followed by Indonesia, China, Italy and India. Overall, Brazil imported 5 million pairs for USD 52.4 million.
Despite figuring in the top suppliers list, Morocco’s footwear exports to Brazil in the first two months of the year saw an 8.6% decline in volume from a year ago. In revenue, the decline amounted to 23%, as the price of the exported pair also stepped down, by 15.6%.
