São Paulo – Morocco’s fisheries production reached 1.4 million tonnes last year and a record volume of business in the sector, with MAD 15 billion, equivalent to USD 1.5 billion at the current rate. The news was published in the country’s official news agency, Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), this Friday (18).
Information was released to the press by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forestry of Morocco. Revenue growth in the sector was 35% in 2021 over 2020. According to a statement from the ministry, the sound performance was noted in artisanal fishing, coastal fishing, and deep-sea fishing.
Artisanal fishing stood out, with a 66% growth in business. According to the ministry, it benefited from the 53% increase in octopus prices. Inshore and deep-sea fishing significantly boosted business, with general cephalopods increasing value last year.
