São Paulo – The Arab countries Morocco and Iraq have opened up their markets for hay from Brazil, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa, in the Portuguese acronym) said earlier this week. The move came once phytosanitary negotiations were concluded. Hay is an animal feed input.
Morocco is an importer of agricultural products from Brazil, as is Iraq. Sales from Brazil to Morocco amounted to USD 1.1 billion from January to November of this year, driven by sugar, corn, livestock, pepper, and beef. Sales to Iraq reached USD 1.3 billion, driven by sugar, poultry, soy, livestock, and corn.
The Mapa said the clearing of imports is the result of tandem work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and that, including Morocco and Iraq, 525 markets have greenlit Brazilian agricultural products since the beginning of 2023.
