São Paulo – Morocco is the second country with greatest growth among Internet users. In the country, the growth was 56.2% a year between 2000 and 2008. The first is Pakistan, where the volume of Internet users rose 57.5% a year.
The figures are part of a study by Everis, an international consultancy company, and the Business School of the University of Navarra, in Spain, focussing on the statistics of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
According to the study, however, these are not the sites where there are the largest numbers of Internet users. The largest number of Internet users is in China, 285 million, followed by the United States, 234.4 million, Japan, with 89 million and India, with 86.2 million.
Brazil is the fifth country in the world in terms of number of people surfing the Web. In Brazil, the rhythm of growth of users between 2000 and 2008 was 40% a year. One tenth of the 1.6 billion Internet users in the world are in Latin America.
According to the study, last year, 62% of the visits to the Internet in the world were on broadband connections. In Latin America this percentage was 79.2% and in Brazil, 84.9%. The study evaluated 44 countries.
