São Paulo – The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Morocco has announced on the 27 that it will extend the suspension of customs duties on wheat and its products. The decree also covers import duties on lentils, chickpeas and beans. The measures have come into force as of Wednesday (1st).
The previous decree had suspended custom duties on the products until April 30, 2020. Now, the new decree determines the extension of the suspension of import duties to soft wheat until June 15, 2020.
According to Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), the decision was taken after a meeting of the Interministerial Committee in charge of monitoring supply, prices and quality control. The executives said that supplies in various products has been normal and prices have been stable, except for pulses, whose prices ranged from 3% for chickpeas to 8% for dry beans.
Concerning these products, the government has taken measures to suspend customs duties. MAP reported that these measures will have a positive effect on the domestic prices of these products, particularly on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, when demand for these products increases.
