São Paulo – Morocco welcomed some 13 million tourists last year, up 5.2% from 2019, Maghreb Arabe Press (MAP) reported quoting Tourism Observatory figures.
The number includes non-nationals and visiting expatriates. Arrivals climbed 5.4% for the former and 5% for the latter.
The source countries that saw the biggest increments in traveler numbers to Morocco were Italy, up 9%, the UK, up 8%, France and Spain, up 6% each. Germany, up 5%, and Holland, up 4%.
Tourist nights were up 5%, with the bulk of those spent in Marrakesh and Agadir, which accounted for a combined 57% of total nights spent. The number of tourist nights was up 6% in Marrakesh and 3% in Agadir.
