São Paulo – The manual tools, like files, saws, pliers, socket wrenches, hammers and bi-metal saws, made in Brazil by North American multinational Apex Tool Group, are already shipped to five Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Jordan.
"The Arab market represents a significant opportunity. They are good buyers that place great orders, which ends up making it a very worthwhile market," said export manager Marina Dias dos Santos.
According to her, the annual average of sales to the Arab countries is 400,000 Brazilian reals (US$ 237,000). "We have a manager in Dubai who takes care of the business with the region and we believe that the tendency should be to increase sales in 2011," added Marina.
According to the manager, company exports started in 1995, to countries in South America, Europe and Africa. The first exports to the Arab countries took place in 2003.
The company is one of the main producers of manual tools on the Brazilian market and has been in the country since 1972, with a factory in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo. In Brazil, the company has an industrial area of over 25,000 square meters and 700 employees.
The history of the Apex Tool Group multinational began in 1833, when Cooper Industries was established in Mount Vernon, Ohio, in the United States. From a small smelter, the company evolved to a large factory present all over the world.
In 2010, Cooper Industries and Danaher Corporation, also in the United States, announced a joint venture, establishing Apex Tool Group, headquartered in Sparks, in the United States. The company currently has installations in over 30 countries and 7,600 employees.
