São Paulo – Emílio da Silva Museum, in the city of Jaraguá do Sul, in Santa Catarina, promotes starting on Tuesday (22) the exhibition "Daily Life and Religion in the Time of the Pharaohs", with a replica of items from museums of Ancient Egypt. The objects are from the collection of the Museum of Archaeology of Ponta Grossa, in Paraná. There are over 100 items exhibited, according to Egyptologist Moacir Elias Santos, the owner of the Archaeology Museum.
Among the objects shown are amulets, jewels, statues of gods, animals, articles for use in daily life and mummies. The collection of the Ponta Grossa Archaeology Museum, which supplies articles, has over 600 objects, part of which are in exhibition and part stored. They were made by Santos himself and also by artist Eduardo Vilela. This is, according to Santos, the second exhibition that the Museum promotes in the state of Santa Catarina.
Tonight there should be a talk about funeral customs of the ancient Egyptians. The talk, to be given by Moacir Elias Santos, should be turned to guests and should begin at 8:00 pm. The exhibition is an initiative of the Rosicrucian Order of Jaraguá do Sul, and has the support of the Emílio da Silva Museum, where the exhibition is taking place, as well as the Municipal Secretariat of Culture of Jaraguá do Sul.
The exhibition was broadly promoted, according to Santos, at local schools and universities and the idea is to attract students. It may be seen up to November 1st, but may still be extended. Admittance is free and the Museum is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 11:30 am, and from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, on Saturday, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and on Sundays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Emílio da Silva Museum was created in the 1970s and was named "Museu Jaraguaense", in reference to the city. In the next decade, it was given the name Emílio da Silva. A researcher and professor in Jaraguá do Sul, Emilio da Silva recorded the memory of the city and region. The Museum has 23 theme rooms and its main objective is maintaining and spreading the local history amidst the population.
