São Paulo – Counting on support from the king of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the World Muslim League is going to promote, from July 16th to 18th in Madrid, Spain, a global conference for inter-religious dialogue. The idea, launched by the Saudi king himself in March, is to bring together prominent figures and specialists in order to discuss peaceful coexistence between different religions, civilisations and cultures. The information was supplied by the embassy of the Arab country to the Brazilian capital Brasília.
According to a press release issued by the secretary general at the League, Abdullah Bin Abdel Mohsen Al Turki, during a meeting held early this month in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, representatives of Muslim countries and communities worldwide declared their unanimous support to the effort.
According to the release, the highlights in the agenda for the conference should be the following panels: "Dialogue and its religious and civic roots," for representatives of different religious beliefs to discuss the issue; and "Dialogue and its importance to human society," to address peaceful coexistence between civilisations, international relations, and conflict solving.
Other themes to be discussed will be: "Human communion in the fields of dialogue," a panel that will discuss the moral situation of human society, the importance of religious values in fighting crime, drugs and corruption, the importance of religion and family for protecting the environment; and "Evaluation and development of dialogue," which should tackle the future of the initiative, the role of countries and international organisations with regard to it, and the role of media vehicles.
According to Al Turki, Spain was chosen to host the conference due to the history of the country, in which followers of the three leading monotheist religions lived together for centuries: Muslims, Christians and Jews.
