São Paulo – The first Netflix original film in Arabic is a remake of the acclaimed Italian feature Perfect Strangers and already has a release date. The adaptation features a cast from several Arab countries and will premiere on the streaming platform on January 20, 2022, in 190 countries.
Seven close friends get together for dinner, and instead of socializing and disconnecting, they decide to play a game that involves sharing all the incoming calls and messages from everyone’s cell phones at the table in real-time, indiscriminately. What starts as a fun joke quickly changes tone as secrets surface.
The Italian film with the most remakes in cinema history already has 18 versions from several countries, such as Greece, Spain, Mexico, Turkey, China, France, South Korea, and India, earning a spot in the Guinness World Records. The Spanish version is also on Netflix (Perfectos Desconocidos).
The Arabic version, titled As-hab wala A’az, features Lebanese actor Nadine Labaki, Egyptian Mona Zaki, Egyptian-Jordanian Eyad Nassar, and Lebanese Georges Khabbaz, Adel Karam, Fouad Yammine, and Diamand Abou Abboud.
The film marks director Wissam Smayra’s film debut. It was produced by Front Row Filmed Entertainment, Film Clinic, Empire Entertainment, and Yalla Yalla. It is the first of many produced by Front Row as part of an initial contract signed with Netflix.
