São Paulo – Economist Alessandro Teixeira will be sworn in as president of the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) today (18), taking over from Juan Quirós, who is leaving the position to become a vice president at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp). Teixeira is the president of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and has also already been the executive vice president at the Apex.
Apex is an organization connected to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade that promotes a series of trade promotion activities in partnership with private organizations. The next will be a trade mission to Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt, starting on the 28th.
Quirós had been ahead of the agency since the first day in office of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, January 1st, 2003. From that day on, according to the Apex, Brazilian exports have grown 127.7% and reached US$ 137.5 billion in 2006. This year, the forecast is for shipments to reach US$ 152 billion.
