São Paulo – Ten cooperatives and associations of cashew nut producers from the northern Brazilian state of Piauí are going to inaugurate today (30) the Cashew Farmer Centre in the northern Brazilian state of Piauí. The site will operate as a distribution centre and generate around 350 direct jobs. This information was supplied by the Sebrae News Agency.
The centre is an initiative by the Piauí State Cashew Farmer Project, in partnership with the Bank of Brazil Foundation. The site will be used by producers from the cities of Altos, Ipiranga, Vila Nova, Francisco Santos, Santo Antonio de Lisboa, Pio IX, Campo Grande do Piauí, Itainópolis, Jaicós and Monsenhor Hipólito.
The centre will operate from the city of Picos and will have a capacity to process 160 tonnes of cashew nuts per month. Practically all of the cashew nut production will be exported. Eighty percent will be sold to the United States and Italy. The business estimate is approximately US$ 170,000 per month.
