Brasília – Brazilian imports of nylon from China, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan will be surcharged for up to four months. The Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade has ruled in favour of the exercising of provisional antidumping rights for goods originating from these countries. The ruling was issued this Monday (16th) on the Official Gazette.
The measure provides for nylon to be overtaxed by amounts ranging from US$ 220.70 to US$ 2,409 per tonne of the product. The amount varies depending on the country and the company at hand. Nylon is a synthetic fibre used in manufacturing women’s stockings, lingerie, swimsuits, bikini suits, Bermuda shorts and others. Dumping is the practice, by a country, of exporting products at lower costs than those practiced domestically. International trade regulations and Brazilian law allows for these items to be surcharged, provided that thet practice is proved through investigation.
