São Paulo – Brazilian construction company Norberto Odebrecht won a tender to build Terminal Embraport, which should be the largest private port in the country. It will be located in the city of Santos and will have a throughput capacity of 1.2 million containers per year and more than 2 million cubic metres of liquid bulk cargo. In addition to the port terminal, the port will include premises for onsite storage and distribution.
The terminal is an initiative by Brazilian Port Terminals Company (Embraport), established in 1998 by the Coimex group, whose objective was to build and operate the port. The terminal will be ready in 2010 and should answer to 70% of total throughput in the Port of Santos. Coimex will invest US$ 500 million in the project. Odebrecht led the consortium that won the tender for construction of the work, along with construction companies Carioca and Constremac.
