Rio de Janeiro – The official inflation rate, as measured by the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) stood at 0.32% in February, above the 0.29% registered in January of this year, but below the 0.33% of February 2017. This is the lowest level of the IPCS for a February since 2000 (when it was registered at 0.13%).
The data was released this Friday (9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to IBGE, year-to-date, the IPCA is at 0.61%, the lowest level since the implementation of Plano Real in 1994. Year-over-year, the inflation rate registered at 2.84%, the lowest for the period since 1999 (when it came at 2.24%).
