São Paulo – Olsen, a company based in the state of Santa Catarina that manufactures medical and dental equipment, wants to increase its sales to the Arab market in 2010. It has already exported its products to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Oman, Qatar, Syria, Libya, Morocco and Algeria. The latter is among the three leading importers of the company’s products, alongside Mexico and Russia.
Olsen allocates 40% of its output to foreign sales, and out of those, 10% goes to the Arab countries. Now, it wants to increase this share even further.
“We are expecting to export approximately 8% more, by identifying other distributors in countries that we do not operate in yet,” says Márlya Câmara, a trader at the company. “We are already in talks with a distributor in Bahrain, for instance. The talks are at an early stage, we are introducing our company and products, discussing some prices, and we hope to conclude an initial deal soon,” she claims.
The company has exported its products for 15 years, and from the start it does business with the Arabs, by means of trade fairs and international business roundtables. One of the latest deals closed on that market was made with Algerian company TSM, to which 24 dental sets were sold, including dentist chairs and equipment. The order should be shipped soon.
Olsen is headquartered in the city of Palhoça, in the state of Santa Catarina. With 180 employees, the company has annual revenues of 9.6 million Euros, out of which 2.02 million are generated by foreign sales.
