São Paulo – The vast majority of foreigners who travelled to Brazil or who are still in the country for the Olympic Games intend to return some day. So says a poll released this Thursday (18) by the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism. It shows that 87.7% of international tourists intend to return to Brazil. Their overall satisfaction level with the trip was 83.1%, which is the rate of people who said the trip either matched or exceeded their expectations.
The people’s hospitality was the aspect they deemed best, followed by airport infrastructure, airports in general, the airport shops and services, and the Brazilian roads. In the cities they spent the most time in, they liked the taxi services the most, and then public security, public transportation, public cleaning, tourist signage, and finally the quality of telecom and internet services.
Regarding tourist infrastructure, night entertainment got the best ratings, with restaurants in second and lodging in third. As for tourist services, they liked the tour guides best, then the cuisine, and the tourist information available.
Concerning the Olympic Games, 87.1% of tourists enjoyed the infrastructure, the signage, the cleanliness and the restrooms at the competition venues, 84.7% of them approved of the general organization of the Games, 80.2% gave positive grades to the transportation available to the venues, 80% liked the ticket prices, and only 57.6% gave their approval to services, food and shops at the venues, and said the services either matched or exceeded their expectations.
The survey revealed that the average income of foreign Olympic tourists is USD 3,581 a month, and that they spent USD 103.7 per day in Brazil. Foreign travellers spent an average of 11.7 days in the country. The bulk of Olympic Games tourists to Brazil came from the United States, at 21.2%, followed by Argentina with 14.8% and Britain with 4.8%. Over half of them, or 56.5%, were visiting Brazil for the first time in their lives.
The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism deemed the poll results very positive. “The data show that we’re hosting a memorable Olympics, and this is a particularly important result when it comes to tourism. It shows that we’ll have an extremely positive legacy, image-wise,” said interim minister Alberto Alves in a statement released to the press.
