São Paulo – British oil company BP signed two contracts with Omani government this Thursday (2nd) to explore tight gas from a well in Northern Oman. As per the deal, the company will build eight land rigs in a contract worth US$730 million. Tight gas is found among rocks or within them. In order for the gas to be extracted the rock needs to be drilled or fractured.
According to information from news agency Reuters, the land rigs at some of the wells will drill through sandstone at depths of up to 4,500 metres. This is not the first agreement between Oman and BP. In December last year, the British company and the Arab country had already established a partnership to explore tight gas at the same region which is now receiving the land rigs. The programme’s duration is 15 years with US$ 16 billion worth in investments.
