São Paulo – This week, a delegation of Oman’s National Defense College is visiting Brazilian military facilities and Congress. The purpose of the meeting, according to information from the Ministry of Defense, is to exchange knowledge and show the Omanis the importance of the defense sector for Brazil.
They arrived in the country on Saturday (19). Since then, they visited the Amazonas Military Command, which is responsible for the monitoring and defense of the states of Acre, Rondônia, Roraima and Amazonas. On Tuesday (21), they met with the chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces, admiral Ademir Sobrinho, and with the deputy chief of Strategic Affairs, admiral Sérgio Ricardo Segovia Barbosa, of the Ministry of Defense.
The delegation of 23 professionals of Oman’s Armed Forces is headed by the director of Oman’s National Defense College, major general Salim bin Musallam Qatan. In Brasília, they also visited Congress and there had a meeting with MPs from the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee (CREDN) and from the Brazil-Arab Countries Parliamentary Friendship Group.
According to information released by Congress, Qatan showed interest in increase cooperation with Brazil. CREDN’s president, MP Jô Moraes (PC do B – MG) told ANBA this Wednesday (23) that Oman’s military personnel came to get to know Brazilian facilities.
“We talked about building military partnerships in the future, but the goal was really the exchange of information in the sector”, said Moraes.
This Wednesday (23), Oman’s delegation is in Rio de Janeiro to visit the War College, which develops and coordinates military instructions courses and is the equal in the country to Oman’s National Defense College. They also went to Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro, to get to know the Submarine Development Program (Prosub). Oman’s ambassador in Brasília, Khalid Al-Jaradi is traveling together with the Omani delegation in Brazil.
