São Paulo – The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of non-oil activities in Oman grew 5.7% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year. With the oil sector included, total GDP fell by 2.5% in the same comparison.
The data were released this Tuesday (29) by the Oman News Agency (ONA) and were calculated by the Sultanate’s National Statistics and Information Centre.
The services sector led the growth of non-oil activities, up by 6.6% compared to the first quarter of 2020. The highlight was the wholesale-retail trade, which grew 16%. Transport and storage also performed well, increasing GDP by 12.7%.
Industrial activities registered a 5.7% increase. The agriculture and fishing sector’s GDP decreased by 12%.
At the same time, oil activities dropped by 20.6% in the first three months of 2021. Within this sector, crude oil had a more significant loss, 22.4%. In the same period, the natural gas sector recorded a 10.4% drop.
