São Paulo – Brazilian organic ice cream manufacturing company Nuttra Sorvetes Orgânicos is seeking a distributor in the Arab world. In February, the company is going to participate for the second time in Gulfood, a food industry trade fair held in Dubai, in order to promote its products and close deals. “I had a very strong demand in Dubai. I sensed that the Arabs really enjoyed the product,” said businessman Fernando Barcellini, the creator of Nuttra.
In this year’s edition, Barcellini made over 50 contacts at the fair, one being a company based in the United Arab Emirates that considered importing, distributing and even manufacturing the ice cream. A company from Kuwait also became interested in the organic products. According to the businessman, next year he is going to be better prepared to export, because he intends to bring along packaging in English and in Arabic.
The flavours that please the Arabs the most, according to the sampling that Barcellini promoted at the fair, are the typically Brazilian ones, such as assai, acerola, blackberry, passion fruit and guava. In addition to the ice cream, Barcellini took to Dubai fruit pulp, which also enjoyed acceptance. The businessman took part in the fair by means of the Brazilian Fruit Institute (Ibraf). “I did not even have my own stand. I had no idea that the Arab market was so open to organic products,” added he, who is going to have his own stand and better preparation this time.
The domestic market launch of the Nuttra ice cream will take place this Wednesday (28th), in the city of São Paulo, at the Biofach organic products fair. The first batch of the product comprises 180,000 ice cream cups in flavours such as assai, blackberry, mango, passion fruit, acerola and strawberry. The ice cream is divided into two lines, water-based and milk-based. None contains gluten or trans fats. According to the businessman, by February, two more flavours will be launched.
In the domestic market, the ice cream will be sold at stores in the Pão de Açúcar supermarket chain, and abroad, Barcellini should close a deal at the Biofach fair with a distributor from Spain, who is going to distribute across Europe.
Nuttra
Nuttra is a brand of the Nutribox functional nutrition company, established five years ago in a business incubator in São Paulo. Barcellini already provided consultancy services and helped elaborate projects for those companies, so in 2007 he decided to found his own organics company, after having developed the ice cream.
