São Paulo – Registration is open for professors interested in working in Lebanon. The Foundation for Improvement of Higher Education Students (Capes) has opened, through the Cultural Department at the Ministry of Foreign Relations, a selection process for education professionals to work for foreign universities in eight countries, among them the Lebanese University. In the Arab country, the professor is going to develop activities connected to the promotion of Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language.
Candidates may apply up to May 30th, and activities in Lebanon are scheduled to begin in September this year, according to information published on the website of the Ministry of Education, to which the Capes is connected. Candidates must be Brazilian, have experience in teaching Portuguese, be graduated in Letters or another similar area, and also have good knowledge of French. They must also be 18 years of age or older, have their voting and military information up to date and be civil servants.
The tenure is two years, which may be extended once. To continue teaching at the university after the period, the professor will have to apply again, after an interval of two years. Among the information disclosed by the Ministry, the candidate selected will receive an airline ticket, financial aid of US$ 1,500 a month and housing in the Rafic Hariri University City.
According to the edict, the Capes will select curricula vitae and the Department of Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Relations will present those pre-selected to the Lebanese University, which will select the candidate. The curricula vitae will be evaluated by the Capes, says the edict, taking into consideration the academic profile required by the university. Apart from Lebanon, Capes has similar selection processes for positions open for professors in Armenia, South Korea, Croatia, New Zealand, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Vietnam.
According to the general coordinator for international cooperation at the Capes, Leonardo Barchini Rosa, the activities of these professors, who in the exercise of this function are called readers, promote Brazil abroad through the spreading of the Portuguese language and of the Brazilian culture. The minister of Education, Fernando Haddad, was in Lebanon in March last year to discuss cooperation with the Arab country in the area of education. At the occasion, he visited teaching institutions in Lebanon.
