São Paulo – Palestinian Airlines has resumed its operations last week. The company had been idle since 2005. It started flying a route between Al-Arich, in Egypt, and Amman, in Jordan.
The objective is to make life easier for inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, who had to travel 400 kilometres to Cairo in order to board a flight. Al-Arich is located 50 kilometres away from the Palestinian border, in the city of Rafah.
Zeyad Albad, the company’s director general, told Arab news vehicles that there are plans for launching routes to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
The company is currently operating two Fokker aircraft with capacity for 60 passengers each.
Established in 1995, Palestinian Airlines used to carry passengers from the Gaza International Airport to different destinations throughout the Middle East, but was forced to halt operations due to restrictions imposed by Israel, which also bombed the Palestinian airport.
