São Paulo – The Palestinian civil engineer Marwan Abdelhamid, president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) will participate in the 72nd Official Engineering and Agronomy Week (Soea, in the Portuguese acronym), slated for September 15th to 18th in Fortaleza, Ceará. The Soea is a gathering of Brazilian Engineering, Agronomy, Geology, Geography and Meteorology professionals to discuss subjects relating to their professions and their development.
According to the event’s press office, Abdelhamid will be one of the international guests for the International Forum on Education and Practice in Engineering and Agronomy, which takes place under the Technical Scientific Congress on Engineering and Agronomy (Contecc); the congress, in turn, is part of the Soea. Besides the Palestinian, specialists from the United States, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil will attend.
The discussion they will take part in will focus on education and professional training, targeting faster innovation, improved education and the constant striving for technological development. The goal is to discuss international trends and scenarios, and work to integrate Brazilian engineering into global chains.
Abdelhamid will travel to Fortaleza alongside the Palestinian ambassador in Brasília, Ibrahim Alzeben. Abdelhamid will hand his position at the FMOI over to a Brazilian, Jorge Spitalnik, at the organization’s global summit next November and December in Japan. The FMOI is recognized by the United Nations (UN) as a reference for technical engineering issues, and is a partner of Brazil’s Federal Council of Engineering and Agronomy (Confea), which is holding the meeting in Ceará.
Abdelhamid attended the Soea last year, in Teresina, Piauí. The event takes place in a different state of Brazil each year, in partnership with the Regional Engineering and Agronomy Councils (Crea). The 2015 edition will be organized by CREA-Ceará in partnership with the Confea.
The theme of this year’s meeting will be “Sustainabilty: water, energy and technological innovation.” Soea focuses on Brazilian professionals, but brings in foreign specialists to discuss their ideas and experiences. In addition to the abovementioned countries, the meeting will be attended by specialists from Denmark and Australia. 3,000 people are expected.
The agenda will include the use of rainwater for non-potable purposes, modernization of learning in Engineering and Agronomy, Engineering for Aquaculture, inspection and enforcement, innovation and entrepreneurship, sustainable energy, technological development in agriculture and others. Tributes will also be paid, including posthumously, to 24 professionals for their work and contributions to the field.
