São Paulo – Dubai International Airport (DXB) welcomed 2.3 million passenger in Q3 and 64.4 million year-to-date through September, as per news published on the Gulf News’ website based on a press release issued by the airport this Thursday (7).
Both periods saw a decline in passenger traffic. In Q3, the decline was 2.4% year-on-year, while year-to-date it was 4.5%.
According to the airport, the contraction in year-to-date numbers is mainly the result of the closure of a runway for 45 days during May-April for a rehabilitation project.
The airport handled a total of 636,575 tonnes of cargo in Q3, down 5.9 year-on-year. Year-to-date figures saw a 4.1% decline, down to 1.8 million tones. The runway rehabilitation project also impacted these.
Dubai International Airport saw 97,498 flights in Q3 and 275,882 year-to-date through September. The top three destination cities were London (England), Mumbai (India) and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). India held its position as the ariport’s top destination country by passenger numbers, followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
