São Paulo – The Brazilian oil company Petrobras announced this Friday (26th) the discovery of a new light oil and gas reserve in the Tefé municipality, in the state of Amazonas. Initial results of the Long Duration Test (LDT), which started in sept at the 1-ICB-1-AM (Igarapé Chibata nº 1) exploratory well confirm the discovery of oil.
According to a statement issued by the company, the 3,485 metre well was drilled at the Solimões River Basin, Block SOL-T-171, of which Petrobras holds a 100% stake in exploration and production rights. Thus far, LDT data indicate that the well has a production capacity of 2,500 barrels of oil per day, which is considered an excellent result for this type of basin in Brazil.
In addition to the LDT, which should take one year to be fully completed, the Discovery Evaluation Plan (PAD, in the Portuguese acronym), approved by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) provides for the collection of new seismic data and the drilling of delimiting wells. These actions aim to ascertain the range of the reserves, determine the quantity of oil in them and confirm their economic viability.
The well is located 630 kilometres away from the state capital Manaus and 32 kilometres away from the Urucu Oil Province. The company already has three oil and natural gas-producing fields in the state, in the municipality of Coari.
