São Paulo – This Friday (17th), the Brazilian oil company Petrobras announced the discovery of light oil and gas at the Espírito Santo Basin, on the Southeast coast of Brazil. According to the company, the discovery was made in sandy reservoirs in the pre-salt layer, and was the result of the drilling of a well informally called Indra.
The company added that the well is located 140 kilometres away from Vitória, the capital of the state of Espírito Santo. The oil reservoirs are approximately 70 metres thick and are at a depth of 3,850 metres, of which 2,100 consist of water. It is the deepest deposit found in this basin so far.
Petrobras owns a 60% share and is the company that operates the concession, in partnership with the state-owned Norwegian company Statoil, which owns the remaining 40% share.
