Rio de Janeiro – Last February, Petrobras exported 238,000 barrels of fuel oil a day, reaching 1 million tonnes during the month. The figure is a record for the state-owned company, which was benefited by the change in the world regulations of marine fuel (IMO 2020). The new international standard reduced the sulfur content from 3.5% to 0.5%, generating opportunities for Petrobras, which produces petroleum and fuel oil with a low sulfur content.
The company reported that oil exports remained high in February, with volumes above 690,000 bpd. The state-owned company stresses this was only possible due to an adjustment in the exports flow, by increasing shipments to the Caribbean, United States, and Europe instead of Asia, which usually is the largest destination of exports from Petrobras but has had a restrained market due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the region.
