Rio de Janeiro – Average production of oil and natural gas by Petrobras, the Brazilian oil giant, increased by 8.6% in March in relation to the same month in 2005, adding up to 2,282,601 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). Of this total, 2,021,357 were produced in Brazil and 261,244 abroad.
The volume produced in the country by Petrobras grew by 10% also in comparison to March last year, and the state of Rio de Janeiro, southeast Brazil, remains the leader amongst the Brazilian states that produce oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids, with average daily volume of 1,588,397 barrels.
The state of Amazonas is in second place, with production of 104.920 boe/d. Of the production registered abroad, the largest volume is observed in Argentina, with average production of 106,177 boe/d.
The average production of oil and natural gas liquids in Brazil reached 1,746,138 barrels per day in March, revealing retraction of 0.7% when compared to February. In comparison with March 2005, when daily production totalled 1,735,000 barrels, there was an increase of 0.64%.
Brazilian production of natural gas in March, in turn, reached a daily average of 43.757 million cubic metres, 0.9% greater than in the previous month. When compared to March last year, the increase was 3.15%, stated a spokesperson for Petrobras.
