Rio de Janeiro – Average daily oil production by Petrobras at national fields stood at 2.321 million barrels of oil equivalent (oil and natural gas) in August, virtually the same level as in July. In comparison with August last year, however, oil and gas production dropped by 1.3%. The highlight was natural gas, at 57.87 million cubic metres per day, a volume 9% higher than in August 2010.
Oil production at national fields reached 1.962 million barrels per day in August, a similar level to those of August last year and July this year.
According to a statement issued by Petrobras, the decline in oil equivalent production (oil and natural gas), compared with August 2010, was mostly due to maintenance at some of the rigs in the Marlim and Marlim Leste fields, in the Campos Basin, and the completion of long-term testing at Guará, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos basin.
Petrobras also announced a decline in production in foreign fields. According to the statement, the average volume of oil and natural gas extracted at foreign fields in August reached 233,500 boe, a decline of 3.9% over July 2011 and of 5.4% as against August 2010.
Gas production increased in foreign fields as against August 2010. The company informed that it extracted an average of 17.2 million cubic metres, representing a 6.6% increase. In comparison with July this year, production declined slightly (-0.4%).
