Houston (United States) – The Brazilian giant Petrobras signed yesterday (19) the acquisition of 50% of the refinery in Pasadena, in Texas, United States, for about US$ 360 million. The unit processes up to 100,000 barrels of oil per day, but the Brazilian state owned company plans on doubling its capacity. For such, it will start processing in the place more than 100,000 barrels a day of heavy oil extracted in the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, Southeast Brazil.
The investment made by Petrobras and its partner, the North American company Astra, will be of US$ 2 billion. The unit of Pasadena is located by the Houston Ship Channel connects itself to the main oil ducts systems that transport oil products to the principal markets of the United States.
