São Paulo – Next Monday (14th), the Brazilian state-owned oiil company Petrobras will inaugurate a gas pipeline named Gasbel II linking the state of Rio de Janeiro to Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais. The structure is 267 kilometres long and should increase the natural gas transport capacity to the Minas Gerais state to 12.9 million cubic metres per day.
The pipeline connects the municipality of Volta Redonda, in the state of Rio, to Queluzito, in Minas, and received investment of 1.28 billion reals (US$ 704 million), according to Petrobras. The company expects demand for gas in Minas Gerais to reach 10 million cubic metres per day by 2015.
The pipeline will supply the region of Minas known as Steel Valley, because of its steel industry, and thermoelectric plants near the cities of Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora.
