São Paulo – Braskem, the Latin American leader in the petrochemical sector, is investing approximately US$ 35 million in the expansion of their isoprene production capacity. The company unit that makes the product is located in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Isoprene is used in the production of adhesives that are then used in the production of office supplies, disposable nappies, chipboard and sticky tapes.
Expansion should be complete up to the end of 2006. Braskem is the only isoprene producer in Brazil. The capacity will rise from the current 18,000 tonnes a year to 26,500 tonnes. This total represents a production increase of approximately 50%. The information was supplied by a Braskem spokesperson.
