São Paulo – The play Habiba, which brings together storytelling and puppet theater, can be seen at Sesc Piracicaba on January 10 at 2 pm. Habiba means “loved one” or “dear” in Arabic and the performance recounts stories and tales from the Arab world.
Lebanese-descendant actress Cris Miguel is the creator and only performer of the play. Habiba is how her grandfather called her when she was just a child. Her grandfather also sang and told stories to her granddaughter about Lebanon, which inspired her to stage the play.
The play features puppets, live music and dance. It brings a little bit of the Arab culture for children and even adults and aims to convey a message of courage and pursuing one’s dreams. The interaction with the audience is part of the show and takes place amid the tales.
Besides actress, Cris is an accordion player, singer and dancer. With a degree in music from the College of Arts of Paraná, she founded the kids TV show Baú de Histórias, and other artistic and cultural activities.
