São Paulo – Poultry farm Santo Antônio (ASA), in Minas Gerais, is working on diversification of its export basket to the Arab nations, to which the entirety of company exports currently go. Apart from shelled chicken eggs, the poultry farm also plans to sell dehydrated eggs, commonly known as powdered eggs, and quail eggs.
“We are currently strongly present in the Arab market with over 20 clients in the Emirates, Qatar and Oman,” explained the administrative director at the company, Aulus Sávio Assumpção. According to him, the Arab importers purchase some 220 containers of eggs a year.
Exports by ASA to the Middle East started in 2007. The first contact was through the Ministry of Agriculture, and generated the first shipment of eggs to the United Arab Emirates. Then came orders from Qatar and Oman. According to Assumpção, the partnership prospered so much that the company ended up concentrating all exports in the three Arab countries.
“As we exported, the market grew and the concentration took place naturally. The brand is currently well known in the region, having become a reference and our sales are the result of recognition and respect,” said the director. According to him, sales are through trading companies, distributors, wholesalers and companies in the food sector. The organisation has already participated in two editions of the Gulfood, a food sector fair that takes place in Dubai each year. "And next year we will be there again,” he guaranteed.
Established in 1968, in Nepomuceno, Minas Gerais, the Santo Antônio Poultry Farm was the first and is still the only company in the state to process eggs, i.e., to offer food industries pasteurized and dehydrated eggs, developed using modern technology.
The poultry farm, which has a stock of 1.2 million birds, has two production units in the south of the state, one in Lavras and another in Nepomuceno. Average monthly production is 65,000 boxes of eggs, each containing 360 eggs. The headquarters are in the city of Belo Horizonte and the sales department is at the Ceasa in Contagem. ASA employs 600 people.
